This is the Way (Part 2)
Pastor Jamie Self - 8/24/2025
In this continuation on repentance, Pastor Jamie Self highlights two key spiritual “potholes” that veer believers off God’s path: false security in religious rituals and plugged ears to God’s word. Drawing from Jeremiah 7, he warns against trusting in outward religiosity (like temple worship) while the heart remains unchanged—what he calls “dangerous safety.” True repentance, he teaches, involves not mere behavior modification but heart transformation that leads to genuine obedience and restored presence with God.
Weekly Reflection
“God has saved you from sin, not to sin.”
Religious routines can make us feel safe—but Jeremiah 7 warns that trusting in outward rituals while ignoring the state of our hearts is spiritual self-deception. Pastor Jamie called this “dangerous safety”—believing we're fine with God because we attend church, serve in ministry, or say the right words, even as our hearts drift. True repentance isn't just doing better, it's desiring God more. Do our rhythms reflect affection for His presence, or just affection for spiritual comfort?

This Week’s Challenge:
Where do I seek safety more than God's presence?
This week, identify one spiritual habit (church attendance, prayer, etc.) and ask: “Is this an expression of love for God—or a way to feel in control?” Practice repentance by returning that habit to its rightful purpose: communion with God.
