King of JOY: Best News
Pastor Jamie Self - 12/21/2025
Pastor Jamie Self teaches that the Christmas story in Luke 2 is centered on the fear of God, which leads to true and lasting joy. He presents Jesus not only as a baby in a manger, but as the powerful “horn of salvation” and the “sunrise” who defeats darkness, crushes evil, and brings peace to the lowly. This fear of the Lord is not terror but reverent awe that reorders our hearts, liberates us from fear of everything else, and draws us to worship the holy and gracious God who saves.
Weekly Reflection
“The horn of salvation has arrived. The serpent-crushing king reverses the fear”
Holy fear fills the heart with wonder at God's power and presence. In Luke 2, the angels announce a Savior born in David’s city, revealing Jesus as both the horn of salvation and the sunrise from on high. This is divine authority wrapped in humility, bringing peace to the lowly and victory over darkness. Fearing God with reverent awe opens the way to lasting joy and glad obedience.
