You Just Missed Him
Pastor Jamie Self - 9/27/2026
Pastor Jamie Self walks through Luke 19:28-44 as the final episode of Jesus' long journey to Jerusalem, where on Palm Sunday the King arranges his own coronation entry on a colt while his disciples lay down their cloaks and sing Psalm 118. The contrast is sobering, because some who traveled right alongside Jesus still called him teacher instead of King, and Jesus wept over a city that cried for peace but did not know the time of its visitation. Jerusalem did not miss a day; it missed a King, and this message calls us to see that true peace is peace with God, made when Jesus walked straight into the reckoning we deserved so that we could receive him with joy as Lord of all.
Weekly Reflection
“Jerusalem didn't miss a day. Jerusalem missed a King. Let's not miss him.”
Most of us would never say out loud that Jesus is just a good teacher, but our schedules, our worries, and our reactions can say it for us. It is possible to walk close to him, sing about him, and respect his words all while building a life where King Jesus serves us instead of a life that serves King Jesus. The peace we chase in quieter homes and calmer calendars is good, but it flows downstream from something far bigger: peace with God, made when the King walked into the reckoning we deserved. The question this week is not how hard we can try to be ready for him, but whether we will open the door and receive him as King.

This Week’s Challenge:
Pause and ask: Is Jesus serving my life, or is my life serving King Jesus? Each morning this week, before you open your calendar or your phone, say the words out loud: "Jesus, you're not just my teacher. You're my King." Then hand him the first thing on your list and ask how He wants it done.
